Whether you
call him "Billy" or "BC24," you always have
to call William H. Calloway, Jr. a consummate professional. Raised
in Evansville, Indiana with Anika (his sister), Billy did not
have to look far for a role model. He learned early on from Harold
and Frankye (his parents) the importance of discipline and a strong
work ethic and credits them with instilling the value of having
dedication, integrity and the undeterred desire to excel in whatever
he chose to do. Those tenets remained with Calloway even while
he was away at college pursuing his first love – (playing
Division I) basketball. During his four years at The George Washington
University in Washington, D.C., he became accustomed to competing
with and against the very best – a challenge that remains
with him today, yet has inspired & motivated him to make a
mark in every industry-related position he has held.
After
graduating with a B.A. in Marketing, Billy's journey into music
took him to Atlanta, GA to work at LaFace Records. It was there,
in the Product Management Department, that he began his maturation
into the seasoned music executive that he is today. In his role
as product management coordinator, Calloway was instrumental in
the development and implementation of the marketing plans for
several platinum and multi-platinum LaFace artists, including
Toni Braxton (SECRETS), Usher (MY WAY), TLC (CRAZYSEXYCOOL), and
Outkast (ATLIENS).
Billy vividly
recalls the beginning of his career at LaFace, stating: "I
felt that LaFace was the best urban record label in the industry
to learn the actual business of selling music. I treated it as a
graduate school, soaking up as much knowledge and developing as
many relationships with my peers in the industry as possible." |
