15. When you are listening to songs for your artist(s), what are you listening for? Same thing, good music, song structure, also it varies from artist to artist and song to song. 17. What do you think is the best way for an unknown producer or songwriter to go about landing a song on an established artist’s project, like yours? They should align themselves with established people in the business. Through those contacts, it would help them get exposure. A lot of what I get comes from people I have relationships with - producers, publishers, A&Rs.

18. Do you consistently deal with music publishers when you are looking for songs for your artists?
Yes.

Yes, they are an important part of the process.

22. What do you think of the consolidation of the major record labels and how will that affect your artist?
Record companies are looking to spend less, therefore some of the cross marketing opportunities that once available put money in artist pockets are now being used to supplement marketing budgets. Managers have to be more aggressive in securing deals and protecting them.

23. Do you think the internet has helped or hurt the music business?
To a certain degree it has hurt the biz because it affects record sales, but on the other hand, it allows more exposure for the artists.

24. What advise would you give a producer or songwriter that is trying to get ahead in the music business today? They need to align themselves with someone who has strong contacts and who can create opportunities for them. That can be a manager, a publisher, a lawyer - someone who can make that happen.
