17. What do you like the most about
being an artist? The best thing about being an
artist is that you get to do something for a living that’s
second nature to you. It’s something you would be doing
in life regardless if you’re famous or not.
18. What do you like least about being an artist? The
worst thing about being an artist is feeling lax in certain aspects
of the business when we as artist have to deal with. We use our
natural creativity to do what we do but often get bored when you
have to put up with other things like politicking and documents
in the business.
19. What’s next for you?
The next thing for me is to get this album out and re-introduce
Nivea to the world.
20. When you are listening to tracks
and songs for your album, what do you listen for? When
I listen to songs for my album, my ear is moved by my mind, which
is moved by my body. This is also how I write. The music determines
the mood/tone of the song. However, it always has to be a real
and true experience.
21. When did you do your publishing deal?
I did my publishing deal with Zomba when I did my record deal
in 2000/2001.
22. Do you work closely with your publishing company?
I only deal with my publishing co. when, which happens
to be now, I want to work with other artists or discussing monies.
23. Do you think that the internet has helped our hurt your career
as an artist? I believe that the internet has
helped and hurt not just mines, but also many artists’ careers.
Simply because it is exposure but it allows people to have access
to your music free while you sit at home starving. However, most
artist do not benefit off records sales alone if they aren’t
writers, which is also why rappers get rich faster than others
genres of recording artists.
24. What advice can you give an aspiring
songwriter / artist that is trying to get an ahead in the music
business today? The best advice I could give to
anyone trying to get into the music business is to KNOW THAT PAPERWORK!
In addition, to also let GOD in your life and let the dream/desire
to be in your heart first!
